Mulayam Singh Yadav, a veteran Indian politician and three-time leader of the country's most populous province, died on Monday after more than six weeks in an infirmary, Mulayam Singh Yadav died after seeing 82 years of his life, Mulayam Singh Yadav was in his 20s when he entered politics. In 1989, he virtually stepped into politics to become the Chief Minister of the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. The state sends the largest number of legislators to the lower house of Parliament and a strong showing in Uttar Pradesh is essential for any party or alliance to win power at the federal level. Affectionately called Netaji, or Reverend Leader, by his party, Mulayam Singh Yadav became the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh twice in 1993, a year after right-wing Hindu extremists attacked the 16th-century town of Ayodhya.
